How dare a woman speak up?
I write personal essays. I talk about my life, about things I’ve done, things that have happened to me. Mistakes I’ve made, lessons I’ve learned; things I regret and things I’m grateful for (sometimes these are the same things).
The stories are meant to be amusing, or touching, or empowering, or educational — any or all of the above. They’re meant to share my human experience, to connect with other humans across this vast world. I love that we can “meet” people from anywhere — everywhere — and discover that we’re really not so different after all.
Like almost everywhere else on the internet, people can, and do, comment on my stories. The vast majority of the comments — really, I’d say 95 percent or more — are positive and supportive. They make me happy, make me smile; they make this all worthwhile.
Then, there are the other comments.
