I’m about to release a new book! It’s a collection of edited essays that I originally published, well, here. I’m super excited about it: it’s been a really fun project to put together — reading through all my personal essays, choosing my favorites, figuring out how to organize them. Recruiting beta readers and blurb-writers. Having it edited; making it as good as it can be.

As every author knows, it’s one thing to write and polish and hone your work; it’s another huge step to get it published (or publish it yourself); but the real challenge is in the promotion. The best book in the world will fail if nobody knows it’s there. So…you do actually have to tell people you’ve got a new book coming out. Sigh!

This is the hardest part, for me and nearly every other writer I know. (If I were a good or even minimally competent salesperson, after all, I wouldn’t have failed as a realtor.) But still, dutifully, I went on Facebook the other day and announced my new book.

Happily, I got a lot of cheerful, encouraging comments from friends. They love the cover; they’re excited to read the book; they think pulling my favorite essays together and releasing them like this is a great idea. I got a number of pre-orders, and a bunch of…
